Dresden settles in

well, dresden has been getting used to her new home and new family. she is so obedient that she just hangs with us (her people) until bed time, unless we have to go out for a bit. her new best friend paige is enjoying short walks and cuddles with her. upon observing her for that past couple days i think she is a mix of greyhound and german short haired pointer, you should see this girl run! When she lays down she looks just like a greahound body, and when she sees something she wants she lifts her front foot and points her tail just like a gsp. she enjoyed a good frolic off leash at grandma and grandpa's house and got to meet "the boys" riley and quincy - two westies that live w grandma and grandpa. i really have been enjoying walking her at night and in the early morning when no one is around, the quiet is good for thinking and praying and dresden is good company. i went running today, but not yet w dresden, she's still recovering from her heart worms, but maybe in a couple months ;) she seems happy to be here with us and is settling in quite nicely.

Charlotte aka Dresden goes to her new home!

Yesterday was a big day for Dresden. Last weekend Dresden met Kelly, Jason and their lovely three children at an adoption event. Well, who could resist Dresden? Kelly and her family were smitten and last night the family came to pick Dresden up and take her home.

Off Dresden when with her new 11 yr old human holding the other end of the leash. We can't wait to hear how Dresden is doing in her new home.

Charlotte aka Dresden

Lovely Dresden went to the vet on Wed for her heartworm treatments. These are injections of medicine that kills the heartworms. Dresden had one injection on Wed and a second on Thurs. The injections are painful and poor Dresden was one hurting puppy when she got picked up to go home - the poor girl was whining most of the drive. Boy, was she glad to get into her crate for a nap . There's nothing like being in your own bed when you are feeling lousy!

The next day, she was feeling more herself and now she's back! Unfortunately, as Dresden's body absorbs dead worm pieces (yes, its gross - so make sure YOUR dog is on heartworm prevention meds), Dresden will have to hang up her running shoes. She needs to stay calm for a couple of months. After that, she will be better than ever and in no time at all, she'll be able to run, jump, frolick with the best of them.

Dresden Settling in

Our cute little girl seems to be settling in quite well. Xena and Dres are getting along pretty well, Xena still trying her foiled sneak attacks.
Here I think they've managed a truce after Xena got mad at Dresden for (how dare she!!) putting a paw on the sofa. Honestly, Xena would make a great little hall monitor.

Whenever we can we take her for long walks, which she seems to really enjoy. Last weekend I think I finally was able to tucker her out. I took her for a 2 hour walk around the neighborhood, for once she was walking way behind me and at a slower pace. Usually she's right at my heels and when running she helps me keep a better pace. If she and I keep this up who knows maybe we can enter a marathon together, ok maybe half marathon. Let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Squirrels seem to be the bane of her existence; in her defense though the squirrels in my neighborhood are really bold and I think have attitude problems. They seem to delight in taunting her. But we're working on it, and she's definitely gotten better about ignoring those wily little fur balls.

Dresden overall is a really calm happy puppy, and even though she's 3 years old, there's alot of pup in her. She really does need a good amount of exercise to harness that energy and I think just fulfill her doggie needs. We are teaching her how to fetch now, that whole concept seems a bit foreign to her, but I think once she gets the hang of it she'll love it. We've also been working on her "Dresden come" skills, she's gotten very good at responding to us indoors. Outside she gets slightly distracted by you know who. But treats seem to help that.

And this is Dresden trying to fit into Xena, the 5.2 lb Chihuahua's bed. And oddly enough she manages to doze off in there.

Unfortunately, the weather today is all rainy and cold. I've been hoping to get some shots of Dresden outside. Soon!
